HIPAA is a federal law passed in 1996 requiring healthcare providers to protect the health information of their patients or clients. Whereas before healthcare organizations freely exchanged information about the patient, the federal government says now that the exchange of information should have good intention and purpose. The law requires healthcare institutions toprovide training to healthcare providers and ancillary staff that handle any healthcare information so that healthcare information will be safeguarded. This course looks into the possible different scenarios where patient information could be inadvertently shared and personal identification can be compromised.
