Course Description
Many clinicians, including CNAs themselves, think that CNAs have NO role in pain management. Many clinicians have the view that pain management is all about administering narcotics and pain medications. The general viewpoint is pain management is really not in the realm of CNA scope of practice because CNAs do not administer medications. This is totally false. Clinicians should change this mindset. This course will look into how CNAs play an important role in pain management.
Learning Objectives
- Learn the physiology of pain or cause of unpleasant sensation.
- Look into pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions in pain management.
- Look into the prevalence of chronic pain in the elderly population.
- Explore possible complications of continued unrelieved pain in the elderly.
- Recognize the role of CNAs in pain management.
